Introduction
The race to protect Japan is being led by a company called Japan Homeland Security Corporation – JHSC. JHSC has introduced a new product called Line-x and Paxcon industrial coating. Line-x is mainly known for its truck bedliners and has expanded into Force Mitigation, Blast Mitigation, High Performance coating applications and high chemical resistant applications. The Line-x Polymer is stronger than steel but unlike steel, it is elastic so it can absorb strong impact.
In 1999, the U.S. Air Force commissioned a study to look into how they could reduce fragmentation in a bomb blast. The Team looked at 26 different coatings and selected LINE-X as their best choice for blast mitigation. Fragments of concrete or sharp pieces of glass in a building are the number one killer in a blast, earthquake or other disaster. According to research, over 80% of deaths reported are caused by building fragmentation.
A great demonstration is to drop a cinder block from a top of a building . What we will find is that the block will break into sharp fragments and shards. This demonstrates what will happen to a building that is not coated with Line-x as these deadly shards will fly causing damage and fatality. We can take a similar block, coat it with Line-x and drop it from the same height. As you will see, the Line-x product will hold the cinder block together.
